Studio 3e8 Reveals Mesa 1 Desktop Metal Printer with Integrated Furnace

The prototype deposits metal and scaffold powders, then automatically sinters the part in its build crucible. A Kickstarter campaign is planned for December 1, starting at $3,500.

Studio 3e8 has introduced Mesa 1, a desktop metal 3D printer with an integrated sintering furnace. According to the company, its slicer separates a model into metal and scaffold regions, which the printer deposits from sealed powder cartridges. The part remains in a crucible for automatic sintering, with no laser, binder or debinding step. Initial metals are carbon steel and copper, and the company says the machine runs from a standard 120 V outlet.

A Kickstarter campaign is scheduled for December 1, 2026, with campaign pricing from $3,500. Build volume, layer thickness, accuracy, shrinkage compensation, scaffold composition and removal, reuse, and regular pricing remain undisclosed. AM Insight Asia also flags trapped scaffold in enclosed cavities and clean separation after sintering as open questions. Mesa 1 is therefore a prototype crowdfunding offer whose specifications and pricing may change, not yet a proven production system.

Key facts

  • Kickstarter is scheduled for December 1, 2026, starting at $3,500
  • Metal and scaffold powders are deposited from sealed cartridges and sintered in the machine
  • The company names carbon steel and copper as initial metals and says Mesa 1 uses standard 120 V power

Context

The concept compresses desktop metal AM into one machine, but adoption depends on disclosure and validation of core specifications, especially scaffold removal and accuracy.
