Meshy Edit Adds Prompt-Based Local Changes to AI-Generated 3D Models

Meshy has launched Meshy Edit, which uses text or reference images to change a selected region of an AI-generated 3D model.

Meshy Edit lets users select an area of an AI-generated model with Lasso or Brush tools, then describe an addition, removal or replacement in text. The system regenerates that region while retaining the unselected geometry and the original model. Users may attach up to five reference images of 20 MB each; with no selection, the instruction applies to the whole model.

The feature became available to all registered users on October 16, 2026, at 20 credits per edit. Each result is saved as a separate model and can be edited again, downloaded or sent through Meshy’s print workflow to supported slicers. Meshy estimates roughly one minute per edit but acknowledges that results vary and may require retries.

The current release changes geometry only, not textures or colors. It mainly supports high-poly models generated with Meshy 6 or 7.1; uploaded STL files, split results, and rigged or animated models are not supported. Independent coverage also notes possible unintended changes near selection boundaries and output that may not match the prompt.

Key facts

  • Users select a local region with Lasso or Brush and can attach up to five reference images.
  • Launched October 16, 2026 for registered users at 20 credits per edit.
  • The release edits geometry only and does not overwrite the source model.
  • Uploaded STL, split, rigged and animated models are currently unsupported.

Context

The tool simplifies last-mile corrections to AI-generated models, but it does not yet replace precise CAD edits or editing of third-party STL files.
