IOT Commercializes Light-Form for Single-Flash Progressive Lens Production
Spain’s IOT says its Light-Form process forms personalized progressive lenses in seconds by curing the full photopolymer volume in one exposure, with consumer sales now underway.

3D Printing Industry reports that Spanish ophthalmic technology company IOT has moved its Light-Form process for personalized progressive lenses into commercial use. Stabilized frontal photopolymerization forms the entire lens volume with one light exposure rather than building it layer by layer.
The “seconds” figure applies to lens formation. Unused resin recovery, surface hardening and optical mapping follow before completion, while IOT says conventional generating and polishing can be eliminated. The company says finished lenses are already reaching consumers.
Claims of zero manufacturing water, 90% less energy and 76% less waste come from IOT and cover the manufacturing stage only. The report does not provide detailed comparison conditions or independent test results, so the environmental figures remain unverified.
Key facts
- Forms the full lens volume with one light exposure
- Formation takes seconds, followed by recovery, hardening and mapping
- IOT says personalized progressive lenses are already sold to consumers
- Environmental reduction figures are company claims
Context
It could shift ophthalmic lenses from inventory-heavy surfacing toward on-demand forming, but independent validation of optical quality and environmental metrics will be central to adoption.
