Freemelt has received a SEK 28 million order from the European Spallation Source (ESS) for 7,000 tungsten-based components. Deliveries are scheduled over 14 months, mostly in 2027. The parts will be used in the target wheel, where an accelerator proton beam strikes tungsten to generate neutrons for materials research.

Freemelt's Manufacturing business will coordinate material supply and delivery of qualified finished parts, using the company's electron-beam powder bed fusion and tungsten expertise. Individual geometries, process parameters and qualification-test details were not disclosed. Expectations of recurring replacement demand are the company's outlook; the confirmed transaction is the 7,000-part order and delivery plan.
