Materialise and Additive Industries have jointly released a next-generation Build Processor for the MetalFab family, now available to existing users. Reported by Nanjixiong on October 22, 2026, the software updates build-data preprocessing, handling of large and complex jobs, and scan-strategy control.

In a benchmark supplied by the companies, the same task took 46 minutes in Classic Build Processor 2.6 and six minutes in the new software, an approximately 87% reduction. The speedup is attributed to multiprocessing and algorithm improvements. Users can prepare, configure and submit jobs through Materialise Magics, import profiles from the classic processor, and connect build data with CO-AM.

Controls introduced with MetalFab 420K are also extended across MetalFab environments, including multi-laser load balancing, beam-diameter control by vector type, Ghost Vectors for thermal stability, and advanced exposure strategies. The 46-to-six-minute result is a vendor benchmark; full details about the workload, hardware, effects on build quality, and independent comparison have not been published.

Key facts

  • Available to MetalFab users.
  • A vendor benchmark reduced preprocessing from 46 minutes to six.
  • Integrates with Materialise Magics, existing profiles and CO-AM.
  • Supports multi-laser load balancing, variable beam diameter, Ghost Vectors and exposure controls.

Context

The software could reduce preparation delays for complex metal LPBF jobs and extend control on installed MetalFab systems, but real-world gains need validation for each workload and computing environment.
